Suspect Stabbed When Van Stolen at Riverside Aldi

On August 22nd 2012, at approx. 11:15 am a 90 year old man was placing groceries in his van after shopping at Aldi’s in the Airway Shopping Center in Riverside. As he was returning the cart to the store a white male possibly Hispanic entered the victim’s van and hid in the back. The victim proceeded to leave the shopping center and when in the 5000 block of Springfield St just underneath the Harshman Rd overpass the suspect jumped up and stabbed the 90 year old man while demanding money. After the victim complied with the demands and handed over his wallet the suspect pushed him out of the van onto the street while the van was moving. The suspect then fled westbound on Springfield St driving the elderly man’s van. The vehicle was recovered a short time later at 4th and Wright Ave in Dayton.

The suspect is described as a white male, possibly Hispanic, mid to late 30’s, Hispanic accent, 5-9, 160#, kinky short black hair, dark short beard, wearing dirty clothes and a foul odor.

The van the suspect stole from the victim is a 1993 Chevy conversion van, dark blue with light blue accents. The van has been recovered but we are hoping someone may recall having seen the suspect driving the vehicle that day and recognize him.
